1987 Town Car AC Leaks

Hi guys,

My 87 Town Car is at the shop in Naples right now.  I’m told that the leak of the AC system is coming where the hoses go into the condenser.  The shop has called around to find new O rings and clips to hold the hoses tightly in place.  They have had no success in finding what they need.  Is this something you can provide parts for or advice on getting these leaks fixed?  The compressor and accumulator were replaced earlier this year and evidently are working fine without leaks.

Thanks for reviewing!

Jerry

Greetings  Jerry –

Some of those refrigeration leaks can be quite elusive. If the present problem with your a/c system is actually caused by the r/12 leaking, that leak or leaks need to be located and repaired instead of guessing and replacing more parts. I myself  have never heard of the explanation that you have been given. Refrigeration systems are constantly under pressure when they are charged but some leaks can be difficult to find. Could you possibly send us a list of the a/c parts that were replaced and so that we can check in to this further for you.

To answer the question in your last sentence, the answer is yes, I am quite certain that we will have the parts available to correct your r/12 leak but the actual leak cause must be found and correctly identified first.

Sincerely,

Bill

Bill –

Picked up the 87 yesterday and they tell me the parts you sent were exactly what the car needed. They said the hoses to the condenser are now rigid and can not flex. They checked for leaks of R-12 two different days and found none! Certainly want to thank you for your help on this. Glad to have both the 87 and 78 home in the garage!
