1970 Lincoln Gas Tank Question

Good morning Mr. Bill!
I have a quick question; The gas tank on the 70 has a tiny leak under the strap. I want to replace the tank. I thought I read somewhere that the gas tank for a 70 is the same as the one used on all full sized Ford products for 1970, true or false?? Any direction you can give me will be appreciated. I have been looking everywhere for the data and not able to locate.
Tell the Mrs. hello for me and I hope to see you this winter.
All the best,
Carter

Hi Carter –
Hope that all is well with you. The old FoMoCo parts catalog shows that originally one of two fuel tanks were used on the these 1970 Lincolns. The first was p/n DOAZ-9002-A and was used on those with Evap Emissions. The second was p/n DOAZ-9002-B and was uses on those without Evap Emissions. These same part numbers were also used on other full sized Ford products 1969- 70 ( except stn. wagons). The difference in the part numbers was probably due to the emission venting provision at the tank. Will see you this winter.

Good morning Bill,
So ours (the dark blue 70) does NOT have emissions, correct?

Hi Carter –
I do NOT believe that your Lincoln has the evap. venting at the fuel tank as I have never seen, had to service, or look for any problems in that area on your car. It is possible that this particular vent set up was a California requirement only. Chris may be able to send you a photo from the 1970 volume two shop manual so that you can view the installation and then check yours out.
