The gear shift lever on my car “jams” in park and will only dis-engage after extensive manipulation of the ignition switch and pumping of the parking brake – help please!!!
Any advice would be much appreciated

James –
Do your Brake Lights work?
Have you tried turning the steering wheel left or right very slightly while turning the key? and pushing the gear shift lever slightly higher. If the key then turns the ignition switch and the gear shift moves out of park easier it may indicate some well worn or out of adjustment parts. High mileage or rough usage may have helped to cause this. I would try the above first in order to diagnose this problem.
Let us know.
Sincerely,
Bill
Greetings Bill from downtown Monifieth Scotland.
Problem solved re the gear lever sticking in park on my Lincoln Town Car.
Your advice did the trick and as my car was in the shop for a service I asked them to check.
the brake lights as per your question.
The fault was traced to a defective stop light switch which has now been repaired.
May I say again how much I appreciate your help!
James
