1979 Town Car Dieseling

Hello –

I have a 1979 town car high idle when start when put in drive without foot on gas car wants to take off now experiencing dieseling when shut off could it be stuck choke not sure what the issue is going to have a mechanic look at it any ideas ? What is could be thank you very much.

Your issue at first glance appears to be some simple carburetor adjustments. The first items to check and adjust are the cold choke setting and the fast idle adjustment as well as the warm idle speed and mixture adjustment. Suggest these adjustments to your mechanic (who I assume is familiar with carburetors) as they are common and easy to do as a first step in your case.
