1969 Continental Sedan AC Questions

Hi Bill –
My a/c compressor clutch will not engage.The system is low on Freon-could this be the reason?

Hi Paul –
FoMoCo did not provide a circuit to disengage the compressor clutch if the refrigerant charge is low or depleted during these earlier years of a/c.

Another question- does the compressor clutch have to be removed in order to replace the brushes?

The answer is “yes” especially if yours is the factory installed compressor and clutch assembly.

Many thanks, I realized what I was doing wrong: the clutch holding tool had to be used to prevent the front mechanism from moving. Then it came off easy!
