1966 Electrical Questions from Australia

Hi Bill –
I have a 66 Lincoln Continental Convertible. Are you able to tell me exactly what the four relays located in the B pillars are for 2 in Right Hand and 2 in Left Hand.
Thanks,
Ross

Hi Bill –
Another relay question for you. My turn signal lights on the dash aren’t working properly and I was hoping you may be able to explain what the four wire turn signal relay dose and how it is suppose to operate.
Thanks,
Ross

I’ve enclosed the Wiring Diagram as well as a Post from our Blog that might help in regards to your Turn Signal issue.

Hi Bill –
Thanks for the info. I am trying to understand how it works, I Already have the wiring diagrams thanks. What I can’t understand is how the four wire relay is supposed to work. It has a wire going to each globe on the dash but only receives a signal from the right hand side to flash, I was hoping that you may be able to give me a rundown on how it works.
Thanks,
Ross

Ross –
The Wiring Diagram that I sent, and you state you already have is going to give you the most information. You will need to follow the path from the Dash Signals, and it will lead you directly to the Relays on the Diagram. You could also begin with a continuity check on the Turn Signal Switch, but it may be easier for you to look inside the two Relays for electrical damage or poor continuity at the contact points.
If the Car and/or Relays were here, we would be bending back the tabs on the Relays and doing just that. You can send the Relays to us for testing – but of course the Shipping is not going to be cheap due to your location. The testing cost would be nominal, if any. We can not put into writing how the components of this complicated system all work. Your issue could be as simple as a burnt out indicator bulb in the dash, or incorrect LED bulbs or damaged or reinvented wiring somewhere. You need to study the circuits and components shown in your Wiring Diagrams and then inspect and qualify the common problem parts as we suggest.
Sincerely,
Bill
