1965 Continental Brake Issues

Bill –

I checked in my book but could it be something else then the booster, pedal goes down; I checked the vacuum ball, the hose that connects to it, good condition .. you have a special clue?

Erik

Hello Erik –

From the information that you have provided and assuming that all else is in good order, it sounds to me that you have a hydraulic problem. The master cylinder seals could have failed and this is causing the brake fluid to bypass the seals internally. You or your mechanic should start by bleeding the brake system and inspecting all of the hydraulic lines and wheel cylinders for leaks. If there are no leaks found and the system was bled properly the brake pedal should not go down to the floor when applied. If it does, the next step is to replace the master brake cylinder with a new one. Let us know what you find.

Sincerely,

Bill
